When to call immediately
Some electrical problems can wait until morning. Others can't. If you recognize any of these, call right away, talking on the phone costs nothing.
Burning or hot plastic smell
A burning smell near an outlet, switch or your panel is a fire risk. Shut off the breaker and call immediately.
Partial power outage
If your neighbours have power and you don't, the problem is in your own installation or service entrance, not Hydro-Québec.
Breaker tripping repeatedly
A breaker that keeps tripping indicates an overload or short circuit. Resetting it without fixing the cause is dangerous.
Sparks, crackling or scorch marks
Sparks at an outlet or black marks around a contact point mean electrical arcing. This needs same-day attention.
Hot or buzzing electrical panel
A panel that hums, feels hot or crackles needs urgent attention from a master electrician.
Water near electrical equipment
Flooding, backup or leaks reaching outlets, wiring or a panel: shut off the main and call.
While you wait for us
- If there is smoke, flames or a strong burning smell, call 911 first.
- Shut off the breaker for the affected circuit, or the main breaker if you're not sure which one.
- Don't touch exposed wires, and never touch a panel that is wet or hot.
- Unplug appliances on the affected circuit to avoid another overload when power returns.
- Don't keep resetting a breaker that trips repeatedly.

What sets us apart is simple: when you call for an emergency, you speak directly to the master electrician who will show up, not a call centre. It's the same person who answers at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday and 3 a.m. on a Sunday.
Laval and Montreal are our primary areas, but we cover a large part of Quebec: the North Shore, Laurentides, Lanaudière, West Island, South Shore, and further still for emergencies and commercial work. Residential, commercial and industrial, in English and French.

Frequently asked questions
Do you really answer at night and on weekends?
Yes. Emergency service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. The master electrician answers the phone himself, not an answering service.
What does an emergency call cost?
Talking on the phone costs nothing. We assess the situation with you and give you the service call rate before we leave. No surprise fees.
How quickly can you get here?
It depends on your area and the time. We give you an honest estimate on the phone. If we can't get there quickly, we tell you right away so you don't waste time.
Is this a Hydro-Québec outage or a problem in my home?
If your neighbours have power and you don't, the problem is almost always in your own installation or service entrance. If the whole neighbourhood is dark, check the Hydro-Québec outage map. Call us and we'll help you tell the difference on the phone.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Ampereur Électrique Inc holds RBQ licence 5600-9384-01, is a member of the Quebec Corporation of Master Electricians, and carries liability insurance.
